Biography

Mary was born in what became Vinita, Rogers, Oklahoma about 1896, daughter of Chester Taylor. On her marriage record, the race field is entered as "Cherokee." She was sixteen when she married Clarence Lauchner; her father gave his permission.[1]

In 1910, Mary A Taylor, 14, and Emma Taylor, 11, are enumerated as the Indian grandchildren of white William and Talitha Nair in Township 8, Craig Co., Oklahoma. In the same household is Maggie Nair, white, 38, a daughter of William and Talitha. Candidate for Mary's and Emma's mother?

There is a Chester Taylor in Vinita, Craig, Oklahoma in 1910, enumerated as white with a first marriage for five years with Allie.[2]

In 1920, Mary and Clarence lived in Craig County, Oklahoma with their first two children, Chester and Evelyn.[3]

By 1930, they have four children: they are still in District 8, Craig County, Oklahoma.[4]

In 1940, they have an additional son, Clarence.[5]

She died in Vinita in 1978.[6]

Research Notes

Rogers County was formed in 1907 out of Cherokee Nation while Oklahoma was still a territory.[7] There is no 1900 census for this region.
