Hay Utterson Tayler was born at Rothiemay in Banffshire in 1818, the youngest son of Alexander Tayler and Jane Duff.[1] Sadly to his parents dismay, it was discovered that Hay was also born deaf and dumb. His loving mother kept him close to her for twenty years and never wanted him to leave her side.
