Biography

John was born about 1888, [1]

Dorothy, child of John Starks & Beatrice May Starks, was baptised on 31 January 1920 in Bournemouth: St James Pokesdown, Hampshire, England.[2]

John Starks 40 (1889), Beatrice May Starks 39, Lilian May Starks 16 (1913) Dorothy 9 (1920), and Robert John Starks 3 (1926) arrived on the ship Ascania on 29 June 1929 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada having departed from Southampton, England[3] also mentions nearest relative from country they are departing from in England: brother William Edward Starks and relative in Canada that they are going to: mother in law Mrs R Moore.

John Starks 42, May 41, Lilian 17, Hilda age 11 and John 5 arrived on 24 May 1931[4]

In the 1939 register, John (age 51), Monument Mason, was the married head of household, Bournemouth, Hampshire, England.[5]

Fire Guard John of Morley Road, died (age 55) from the 12th August Bournemouth WWII air raid, account: WWII Bournemouth, he was on Gloucester Road, 1/2 mile from his home. [6]

A time of continued alerts but between 23rd May to 12th August there were no air raids, a siren sounded 15 mins before, in what was the middle of the night, recorded as 10 mins past 1, on 12 August 1943, [7] 8 bombs dropped, 2 the heaviest damage caused, on Gloucester and Wilton Road, Boscombe, killing 10 people including an Air Raid Warden, two Fire Guards, and a mother with her new baby.[8]
