Husband of Lou Ella Burt and Mary A. Webb Father of Lou Ellen Smith and Tommie Loraine MacFarland When Ransom Lafayette Smith was born about 1839, in Washington, Texas, United States, his father, William Berry Smith, was 48 and his mother, Mary Ann Ashmore, was 28. He married Mary Webb on 23 March 1867, in Brazos, Texas, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Brazos, Texas, United States for about 10 years and Justice Precinct 5, Brazos, Texas, United States for about 10 years. He died on 1 February 1914, in Smetana, Brazos, Texas, United States, at the age of 76, and was buried in Bryan, Brazos, Texas, United States. Ransom was born about 1839. He was the son of William Smith and Mary Ashmore. He passed away in 1914.

RANSOM AND LOUELLA SMITH: The Smiths were married in Brazos County in 1892. A veteran of the Civil War, he was in Company D, 26th Texas Cavalry. Born in Washington County, he came to Brazos County when he was 22 years old. Mrs. Smith was born at Millican. For many years they farmed land where the old Bryan Air Force Base is now.

MR. R. L. SMITH DEAD. Was a Pioneer, Having lived in the County More Than Sixty Years- Mr. R. L. Smith. or 'Uncle Ran," as he was called by his many friends, died at his home on Clayton Prairie near Smetana, Monday. February 2, a brief notice of which has been previously made in The Eagle. Mr. Smith was a native Texan, was born in Washington County in 1831 and was therefore in his eighty-third year at the lime of his death. He was among the oldest settlers of Brazos county, having moved here from Washington County when but twenty-two years of age, before Bryan was founded and when old Boonville was the county seat. He settled on Clayton Prairie, seven miles west of Bryan and that community has been his home continuously since. Mr. Smith was a good man and citizen, true in his friends, true to his obligations as a man and citizen and enjoyed the confidence and respect of all. He was a valiant.ex-Confederate soldier, having fought valiantly the South during the entire four years of the war, and was once seriously wounded in the hand, rendering him partially disabled the remainder of his life. He was twice married and was the father of twenty-three children. He is survived by his wife and a number of his children, who have the deep sympathy of all in their sorrow. He was laid to rest in the family burying ground near his home. Dr. M. E. Weaver, pastor of the First Baptist Church of this city conducting the funeral services.
