Biography

Clarice Alberta Mears, 75, of Blandinsville died at 5:40 a.m. Monday, June 8, 1992 at the Burlington, Iowa Medical Center. She was born Jan. 12, 1917 in Canton to Chester and Gertrude (Spiker0 Smith. She married George Mears Oct. 9, 1935 in Blandinsville. He survives. She is also survived by one son, Harry Lee Mears of East Galesburg; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Raleigh Smith of New Yoark and Arthur Smith of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Ardith Flynn of Richland, Mo and Kathryn Townsend of Davenport, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister. Mrs. Mears lived in the Industry area from 1950 to 1953 and resided the rest of her life in the Blandinsville Area. She was a cook at Main Cafe in Blandinsville and several area nursing homes. She later became the head cook at the Blandinsville grade School and worked there for many years before she retired in 1977. She was a member of the Old Bedford Church and the CWF of the church. She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge. Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Clugston Tibbitts Funeral Home in Blandinsville. The Rev. Lee Unger officiated. Burial was in Glade City Cemetery in Blandinsville. There was no family visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Old Bedford Church.
