Tatahcoope is one of only 8 documented children of Powhatan, although he had many more. His mother was Oholasc. His date of birth and death are unknown, but he was probably born between 1590 and 1595. Powhatan named Tatahcoope as weroance of Quiyoughcohannock, but since he was too young to lead, Powhatan named his mother the Weroansqua until Tatahcoope came of age. [1] William Strachey, who recorded these events, only lived in the Virginia colony in 1610 and 1611. He wrote further of Tatahcoope, saying, "the aforesaid Tatacope, made weroance, who, being yet young (as is said) is mostly in the government of Chopoke, at Chowopo… " [2]
There is no other information known about him; while-- if he reached adulthood-- he likely had a mate and had offspring, their names are lost to history.
