Biography

Franz was probably born about 1601. His date and place of birth as well as his parents are unknown due to lack of records (see Research Notes). The rough estimate of his approximate year of birth is based on the assumption that he was about 25 years old at the birth of daughter Anna Maria.

As can be seen from the baptismal records of the children no. 3 to 6 listed below, Franz was married to Anna Stoll. The date and place of marriage are unknown due to lack of records.
The couple lived in Reichenbacherhöfe im Tonbach. Records exist of the following children:

  1. Anna Maria, born about 1626, married Johannes Frey from Röt, parish of Klosterreichenbach near Baiersbronn, 20 January 1647[1], died 28 April 1690 in Röt[2] (see Research Notes).
  2. Conrad, born about 1630, married Eva Frey from Röt, parish of Klosterreichenbach, 5 June 1654 in Schwarzenberg near Baiersbronn, Duchy of Württemberg[3], died March 1679 in Schwarzenberg at the age of 49.[4]
  3. Magdalena, bapt. 30 January 1632, married Matthäus ("Mattheis") Scheiblen from Schwarzenberg 24 May 1653 in Schwarzenberg.
  4. Frantz, born about 1632, died 19 November 1649.
  5. Hanß Michel, bapt. 6 October 1637.
  6. Anna, bapt. 13 March 1639.

Franz's date of death is unknown due to the lack of a burial record. From the fact that his widow remarried on 1 July 1640, it is clear that Franz had died at least a few months before that date.

Research Notes

  • Günther Frey (Ortssippenbuch Klosterreichenbach - see source information below) suspects that Franz's father was Conrad Morlock (died between 1631 and 1635). A sure proof for this has not been found so far.
  • The parents of daughter Anna Maria are not named in her marriage record cited above. Since several families with the surname Morlock lived in the Tonbach region during the time in question, Anna Maria's father comes into consideration: Franz Morlock or Conrad Morlock. Günther Frey (Ortssippenbuch Klosterreichenbach - see source information below) evaluated a municipal document, dated 12 February 1661, from which it can be inferred, among other things, that Anna Maria had received a sum of money from her stepfather. As far as can be seen, Conrad Morlock's widow did not remarry. Since Franz Morlock had died around 1639 and his widow had married Benedict Mast on 1 July 1640, Anna Maria's stepfather was most likely Bendedict Mast. Therefore, there is much to suggest that Anna Maria was Franz Morlock's daughter.
