Biography

Alice was born about 1754 daughter of Rev. Alexander and Esther (Knight) Miller. She passed away after 1814. Alice was living in 1814 when she signed as guardian of her two youngest sons.

Andrew Wilson did not leave and will. His widow Alice was named administratrix on 6 November 1810. Total estate value was $4,868.92. Debts were $368.63. The dower was set to the widow Alice. Distribution to the heirs was made on 15 May 1812. Heirs of the estate were Jane Kennedy wife of Capt. John Kennedy, eldest daughter; Andrew Wilson, eldest son; Lois Parkhurst wife of Job Parkhurst, second daughter; Barbara Wilson, third daughter; James Wilson, second son; Alexander Miller Wilson, third son; Jesse Wilson, fourth son; and Charles Wilson, fifth son.[1]

Daughter Barbara did not marry. She left a will (badly damaged and difficult to read all, probate 7 December 1813) that names mother Alice Wilson, Parkhurst relatives, Cannady (Kennedy) relatives, brother Andrew, brother Charles, nephew Harry Wilson, sister Jane Cannady, and sister Lois Parkhurst. There is a bequest to Patience Walls for her care and services. The pages of the will are missing sections and not all the bequests are readable. Alice Wilson sings a receipt as guardian to her two sons Charles and Jesse Wilson. John Kennedy signs for wife Jane and daughter Patty Canady. John Kennedy also signs for Andrew Wilson, his wife Oneida, and Andrew’s sons Harry and Augustus.[2]

Alice and Andrew Wilson were parents of eight children.

  1. Jane, b. about 1771; married John Kennedy
  2. Andrew, b. about 1772 and died in 1851. Andrew was likely married twice; name of first wife not found. It is this Andrew who was father of Henry and Augustus
  3. Lois, b. about 1778; married Job Parkhurst
  4. Barbara (1779-1813). Barbara did not marry and has a will naming siblings.
  5. James, b. about 1781; married Henrietta Davis and Lydia Potter
  6. Alexander, b. about 1789; married Orpha Spaulding
  7. Jesse, b. about 1799; married Julia Babcock
  8. Charles (1801-1825); Charles did not marry
