Biography

Lillian was born in 1897. She was the daughter of Rufus McWhorter and Anza Morrow. She passed away in 1986.

Her maternal haplogroup is H11a2a1.

So far, unable to locate a 1900 census entry.

Arkansas, Blacksmith/Carriage Shop industry, wage earner, rents home, able to read and write; Anza Mcwhorter age 32 b. Kentucky, married 17 years, able to read and write; Fay M. Mcwhorter age 14 b. Kentucky; Lillian L. Mcwhorter age 12 b. Kentucky; Nellie Mcwhorter age 10 b. Kentucky; Imogene Mcwhorter age 7 b. Kentucky; George Mcwhorter age 5 b. Kentucky; Dorothy Mcwhorter age 2 b. Kentucky. [Emmett Mastine shows in a nearby household as age 16. {Ancestry has transcribed the last name as Martin}. This is the same Emmet Mastine who married daughter Lillian Louise and where the remaining McWhorter family moved after the death of Rufus in 1918.]

1918, October 11, The Bourbon News (Paris, Kentucky). MILLERSBURG. Mr. R. B. McWhorter, of Lexington, is quite ill at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Emmett Mastin.

1918 October 18 The Bourbon News (Paris, Kentucky) Mr. R. B. McWhorters died Monday at one o'clock a.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Emmitt Mastin, after a brief illness of a complication of diseases. Mr. McWhorter formerly resided in Millersburg, and for several years was connected with Mr. E. B. Taylor, operating a blacksmith, wood and buggy shop. After Mr. Taylor moved to Paris, Mr. McWhorter continued the business for a time, later moving with his family to Lexington, where he continued in the business. In the early part of the past summer his health began failing which compelled him to give up his position several weeks ago. For three weeks he was under treatment in Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington, where he seemed to get better. On leaving the hospital he came to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mastin, his health again declined and he continued to grow worse until the end. He was a man who was well liked by all who knew him, a true friend, considerate of his family, and industrious. He is survived by this wife, one son and six daughters. A short funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of his daughter Mrs. Mastin, after which the remains were taken to Centerville [?], where they were interred

25 May 1921 Birth record for son Emmett E. Mastin cites only her name as Lillian McWhorter.

1930 census: Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky. Elva W. Brown, Head, age 44, widowed; Marvin J. Brown, son, age 17; James P. Brown, son, age 10; Louese Mastine, Boarder, age 28, widowed, b. Kentucky, works as salesperson in a retail candy store; Earl Mastine , Boarder, age 8, b. Kentucky. IN ADDITION: Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Frances Mastine, age 11, b. Kentucky, parents birthplace unknown appears in a group listing for Hope Gospel Mission, Hope Haven for Girls on April 28. [It appears to be a homeless shelter for girls].

1931 City Directory, Cincinnati, Ohio: Mrs. Louise Mastine, es [?] Covington, Saleslady, residence Cincinnati.

Her husband Emmet Mastine died 07 June 1934 and was buried in Dayton National Cemetery as a result of his military service as a Private in the 8th US Cavalry. They were divorced at the time of his death.

She married George Aftel [so far have not located a marriage record.]

Her second husband George died 20 July 1947 and was buried in Walnut Hills Jewish Cemetery located in Evanston, Hamilton County, Ohio.

Her death certificate lists her occupation as registered nurse.

She passed away in 1986 and is buried in the Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio, Garden LN, Section 134, Lot 162, Space 2.
