Biography

Charles Hugh Marcell passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2008. Service: Noon Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1111 W. Danieldale Road, Duncanville. Interment: Little Bethel Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at David Clayton & Sons Funeral Home. Memorials: The family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society for cancer research, in lieu of flowers. Charlie was born Jan. 21, 1942. He started his career in aviation as an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force attached to the Strategic Air Command. Upon his discharge from the military he worked for United Airlines in San Francisco, Calif., before moving back to Texas and working for Braniff. In the summer of 1971, he went to work for then start-up airline Southwest Airlines as employee number 12, where he spent the next 37 years in several key positions, including lead aircraft mechanic, check flight engineer, flight ground school instructor, maintenance controller and maintenance field tech. Charlie was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend. He maintained his love of God, family and good humor until the end. He was preceded in death by parents, Charles Putnam Marcell and Elizabeth Lee Richards; and sons, Matthew Christian Marcell and Phillip John Marcell. Survivors: Wife, Carolyn Rae Marcell; daughters, Michelle Yvette Ives and Kimberly Carol Cronin; son, Charles Bradley Marcell "Chuck"; grandchildren, Olivia Gordon, Hayden Marcell and Ashley Cronin; sister, Sarah King; and numerous nieces and nephews. Published in the Star-Telegram on 1/30/2008.
