John was born 16 Oct 1827. His parents were James King and Mary (Southers) King. [1]
He married Ann Patterson. In the Patterson Family Bible it is written "Ann Patterson was married to John King March the 15 in the year of our Lord 1853". [2]
In 1856 they were living in Iowa with their young son Alexander. [3]
In 1860 they were living in Iowa with two young children: Alex P and Josephine. [4]
He was a Civil War Vet. John enlisted on 28 Sep 1861 and discharged 22 Jul 1862. He was listed as Pvt and with Company B 8th Iowa Infantry. [5]
In 1870 John was living with his wife and five children (Alexander, Josephine, Mary, Amos and James) in Iowa. [6]
In 1880 John was 52 and Ann was 57. They were living in Iowa with two sons: Alexander and James. [7]
In 1885 they were living in Iowa with Alexander and Enos. [8]
He died in 20 Mar 1908 in Iowa. Daughter Mary Gelphart signed his death Certificate. [1] In the Patterson Family Bible it is written "John King died March 20th in the year of our Lord 1908 aged 80 years months and days". [14][15] Certificate of death - Birthplace - Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; Father - James King born in Pennsylvania; Mother - Mary Southers born in Pennsylvania. Died of Influenza.
Buried 22 Mar 1908 in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa. [17]

Downey-1809: I have a copy of his "Drop Order and Report" from Dept of the Interior Bureau of Pensions. It states his death date of 20 Mar 1908 and orders his name to be removed from the roll.
