Martin Coffman was a founding member and elder of the Pleasant Run Primitive Baptist Church in Fairfield County, Ohio, in 1807. He shared pastoral duties with Samuel Comer and Lewis Sietz as they traveled the vicinity establishing other Baptist churches. These several Baptist groups were members of the Scioto Baptist Association.
Martin married Anna Miller, daughter of Samuel Miller and Mary Magadelene Wiley of Rockingham County, VA. Anna died about a year before her husband, in 1823. They had a family of 13 or 14 children who survived them.
