Biography

Ephraim Jones Jr. was born at Concord, Massachusetts on May 1, 1730, son of Ephraim Jones Sr. and Mary Hayward. ^{[1] [2]}

He married Alice Cutler of Cambridge on November 7, 1752 at Arlington, Massachusetts. ^{[3] [2]} Alice was born on November 27, 1729, daughter of James and Alice (___) Cutler of Watertown, Massachusetts. ^[4]

Samuel Jones and his wife Hepzibah and Joseph Sewall Emerson and his wife Mary were four of the twenty-two grantors in a 1793 quitclaim who identified themselves as the "heirs of our father and grandfather Ephraim Jones late of Concord" and who conveyed property "which was assigned to our mother and grandmother Mary Ayres then Mary Woolcott the late relict and widow of said Ephraim Jone[s] deceased as her dower or third." The grantee to this quitclaim was Ephraim Jones a shopkeeper of Concord. ^[5]

Given the above quitclaim and evidence from probate proceedings for Ephraim and Mary (Hayward) Jones's son Ephraim, it is reasonable to conclude that the above grantors and grantee Hepzibah, Mary and Ephraim were the surviving grandchildren of Ephraim and Mary (Hayward) Jones and the children of Ephraim Jones who died in 1787 and his wife Alice (Cutler) Jones.

Ephraim died on September 12, 1787. ^[1]

His wife Alice died on Feburay 28, 1792. ^{[2] [1]}

Widow Alice died iat Concord ^[2] on February 28, 1792. ^[1]

After her death, an appraisal of Ephraim's real estate was ordered on June 12, 1792. The proceeds were distributed among the following heirs:

• only son Ephraim Jones
• eldest daughter Hepzibah Jones wife of Samuel Jones
• Elizabeth Jones (dec'd) , wife to Francis Faulkner, guardian to sons Charles and Francis Faulkner
• Mary Emerson and Joseph S. Emerson ^[6]
