Biography

Peter was born in 1739 in Wales. He settled in Hampshire County, Virginia (now West Virginia).

There were 16 original land grants issued on Pattersons Creek in 1748-1749. These are recorded in Northern Neck Grant Book G, now in the safekeeping of the Virginia State Library at Richmond. A portion of Lot 13, in the amount of 379 acres was originally granted to Matthew Rogers. In 1772 Jonathan Rogers sold 115 acres of that to Peter Jones. [1]

A few years later, on December 4, 1789 Peter Jones purchased "345 acres adjoining his own land that he lives on being Lot no. 13, on Pattersons Creek." [2]
