Richard Jenkins was the son of John Jenkins and Elizabeth Capers, who married 12 April 1727, St. Philips Parish, Charles Town, South Carolina.[1]
Marriage
He married first, before 4 December 1750, Abigail, daughter of Daniel and Abigail Townsend. They had a son Daniel (d. abt 1801). [1]
His second wife was Martha, daughter of Edward Rippon, whom he married before 18 January 1755. They had children:[1]

Property
Richard Jenkins had property on Edisto Island, first granted to William Bower.[2] From Jenkins to William Burd.[3]
Death
Richard Jenkins of Edisto Island, St. John Colleton Parish, wrote his Will on 8 December 1771, and it was proved 6 November 1772. He mentions his wife Martha, sons Daniel, Micah, Benjamin, Richard, Joseph, and Isaac, and daughters Elizabeth, Ann, and Sarah. All the children except Daniel are underage.[4]
Slaves
Richard Jenkins was a slaveholder. His probate inventory in 1773 named and valued each of the slaves that he owned at the time of his death.[5][6]
