Biography

Jane Hunter was born on February 3, 1861 in Nelson, New Zealand, daughter of Alexander Hunter (~1833–1887) and Catherine Simpson (1838–1904).^[1]

Jane (24) married John William Lane (23) (born on March 3, 1862 in Nelson; son of William Lane and Anne (Bird) Lane) on December 11, 1885 in Nelson.^[2] Their son was Bernard William Lane (1890–1981).

Mr and Mrs J, W. Lane, of Halifax street, to-day celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, a gathering being held at the residence of Mr B. W. Lane (a son), at which the guests included Mrs L. A. Hutton, Mr and Mrs J. Stephenson (Wellington), and Mr J, Dayman, an old workmate and friend of Mr Lane. Mr and Mrs Lane were married at All Saints’ Church, Nelson, in 1885, Mrs Lane being the second daughter of the late Mr Alexander Hunter.

To-day’s golden wedding is also notable in that it is the third to be celebrated by members of Mrs Lane’s family, the others being that of Mr and Mrs Robert Hunter, and Mr and Mrs J. Stephenson, all of whom are still living. ^[3]

Jane died on November 25, 1944 in Nelson, aged 83.^[4] She was buried in Wakapuaka Cemetery, Nelson, Nelson City, Nelson.^{[1] [5]}
