Sarah died before Benjamin remarried to Luella Mangrum in about 1897,[4][5] having 5 more children with her:
William Isah, born about 1898
Ollie A, born about 1901
Rena Amanda, born about 1903
Floy Azalea, born about 1906
James C, born about 1911
In 1920, Benjamin is listed on two separate Census records, one with his family in Richland, Missouri,[6] and the second in Washington County, Missouri, working for the State Lunatic Asylum No. 3, and listed as a widower.[7] It appears that in 1926, he was admitted as a patient diagnosed with senile psychosis (simple). He passed away in 1929 and was buried in the hospital cemetery.[8]
Research Notes
On the 1900 U.S. Census, it says that Benjamin and Luella had been married for 13 years, or c. 1887.[4] However, the 1910 U.S. Census also says that they had been married for 13 years, c.1897.[5] Since their oldest son, William, was listed as age 2 in the 1900 census, the 1897 marriage date is most likely correct.
After his death, Barbara Parker, wife of Ned Parker, petitioned to have his hospital records opened. The only document in his file was his "Departure" paper, listing his name (Benjamin Harris), date of birth (1851), admittance date (April 24, 1926), diagnosis (senile psychosis - simple), date of death (6/16/29), cause of death (arteriosclerosis, acute bronco-pneumonia), burial information (Ferry Undertakers - hospital cemetery), and family (Mrs. L. R. Harris of Dora, Missouri). Ancestry Sharing Link
