Lines are mostly Mid-Atlantic with a smattering of New England, and often follow frontier expansions; I'm aware of several slaveholders (Bishop, Fish, Graves, Overton/Howerton). I have several stubborn American Revolution era Brick Walls: Bentley (PA; 5ggpa), Brown (NJ; 4ggpa), Tomkins (VA/KY; 4ggpa) wife's unknown maiden name, among others. Due to working FT and living near Seattle, the distant repositories with the needed records are not easily accessible. I'm very active in DAR at all levels. I am attempting to use autosomal DNA to triangulate and chip through these deep brick walls, and have a few leads.

I see that you've recently marked the relationship of many of your ancestors to their parents 'confirmed with DNA'. There's a statement required to be entered in each child's biography explaining how you used DNA to confirm the parental relationship(s). It's all explained here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/DNA_Confirmation

There's a DNA Confirmation Citation Maker which will help you figure out which relationships can be marked 'confirmed with DNA'. The app will also create an appropriate statement for each profile: https://apps.wikitree.com/apps/clarke11007/DNAconf.php

Please add a statement for each child whose relationship to parent(s) you have marked 'confirmed with DNA'. Until you have an appropriate DNA confirmation statement, relationships should be marked 'confident' instead of 'confirmed with DNA'.

Please let me know if I can help. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up Kay. Learning curve for any new site and its protocols clearly. While I haven't made DNA notes on everyone in Wiki yet -- that'll take time -- I have been doing genealogy with my mother for nearly 30 years. Unfortunately for me, Wiki does not allow an easy import of my offline tree with the sources I've accumulated as I've researched forward. Between documentation and DNA triangulation I do have records to back up all the folks I marked "DNA Confirmed".

Hi Marissa,

Thanks for your prompt response! I understand that there's quite a learning curve for WikiTree, and that it's not always clear what is required. That's why I've contacted you.

Please see these instructions: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:DNA_Confirmation#How_to_Add_Source_Citations And note this specific instruction: "Sources are essential for our mission to create an accurate single family tree. If there isn't a proper source citation for a DNA-confirmed conclusion the relationship status should be changed by you or another member to Confident."

Until you have included a "proper source citation" for each profile with a parent marked 'confirmed with DNA', the parental status should 'confident'. Once you've added a "proper source citation" they can be changed back to 'confirmed with DNA'. Would you like to make those changes to 'confident' or would you prefer that I do that for you?

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Thanks for signing the Honor Code, Marissa. I hope you discover as much about your family as I have about mine over the last several years.

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

Thank you for volunteering. You have successfully joined WikiTree.

Start with the pages https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:New_Member_How-To - they are really useful as you add profiles and learn your way around:

Let me know if you require assistance. I am happy to help. After adding my own family and ancestors I have found many cousins and distant ancestors here on WikiTree.
