Hi Tracey,

We have the surname Cupples in common, mine are from the same place, so there must be a connection between us. We must compare names when you have the time.

Take care

Karen 🤗

Hi Karen,

I don't know a lot about the Cupples of County Down since my branch left for Scotland early on in the 19th century. It's been quite frustrating. I still need to add them to my Wikitree.

Hi Tracey,

I have quite a lot of them in my Ancestry tree, I have not moved them all over to here yet. With mine, some have stayed in Ireland, others came to England and Australia, I still have more work to do with finding others, so some of them may have gone to Scotland. If you throw some names and dates my way, I can see if they match any that I have. I have found that some of the Irish relatives on my dads side have been very uncooperative by refusing to be found, those from N.I. have been much more helpful 😊

Take care Karen 🤗

Hi Karen,

I think it would be quicker if I sent you an invite to look a my tree on Ancestry. Can you send a PM with your Ancestry ID or email address?

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Sources are very important here on Wikitree, especially on Pre-1700 profiles. It is how we show where we got the info and help others find it too. Find out more about sources here and more detailed info here.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. To contact me, log in to WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment to be sure that I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment on my profile page.

Hello Tracey,

As you have been a member of WikiTree for a few weeks now I thought I would check in to see how you are getting on with the site.

Has the New Member How-To been helpful or left you with any questions?

I am here to help with any problems or queries you may have. To contact me, log into WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment so that I will be notified. Alternatively, you can click my name to visit my profile, where you can send a private message, or post a comment on my profile page.

Sometimes links don't work in emails.  If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Thank you for signing the Honor Code, Tracey!

Getting started with DNA outlines how to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To get the best results, continue adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, use the reply link below to let me know. I am happy to help! If I can't answer, I will help you find someone who can.

PS You may be interested in joining the England project or find another project that suits your area of research. The England Project has a very useful, self-directed course called The Orphan Trail that will help you learn a lot about sourcing and creating profiles.

Hi Tracey,

You are now a Family Member and this will allow you to maintain and add profiles. Creating your family tree in Wikitree provides you the opportunity to connect and collaborate with other members.

Since WikiTree is different from other genealogy sites, we have a guided tour for new members at New Member How-To. Feel free to work through the How-Tos at your own pace.

If you have questions about how WikiTree works, let me know. You can use the "reply" link under this comment or click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Great to have you on board, enjoy, and good luck growing your branches.
