Matilda Dabbs was born in Georgia in 1823, the daughter of John and Nancy Dabbs. She first married John E. Williams (1817-1852). They had seven children. She later married again. On 4 August 1859, she married Rufus R. Henderson in DeKalb, Georgia. They had three children. Matilda died in Dudleyville, Alabama. [1]
Matilda was born on 30 March 1828. She died on 6 April 1898, aged 70. Her grave marker is inscribed: “Matilda Dabbs Williams Henderson, wife of John Williams and Rufus Henderson....Dear mother lie and take thy rest. We loved you, but God loved you best.” Matilda is buried at Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery, Buttston, Tallapoosa, Alabama.[2]
Matilda Dabbs and Rufus Henderson are mentioned as parents in the death record of their son, Munroe Henderson, born about 1861, and who died on 24 January 1947 in Phoenix City, Russel, Alabama. He was 86, and left his widow, Ann. [3]
