Singer, Songwriter and Political activist. Classically trained composer (married her mentor, composer Charles Seeger) but evolved into political folk music writing about Sacco & Vanzetti, the plight of immigrant workers, influencing her stepson Pete and children Mike and Peggy, all icons in folk music and political causes. Later in life she transcribed American Folk Music.
Along with her husband Charles, "discovered" the folk guitarist "Libba" Cotten who was originally hired to be their housekeeper.
