Hannah was a daughter of Gervase Cowper of Pontefract (according to her marriage record). There does not seem to be a baptism record for her at Pontefract, unless she was his daughter baptised as Anne on 27 October 1633.[1]
She married Francis Usher of Barnsley at Pontefract on 2 November 1657.[2] As was the custom at that time, their intention to marry was published on three preceding Sundays and was recorded in the Pontefract register:
The purpose of marriage between Francis Ussher of Barnsley in the County of York widower on the one part and Hannah Cowper of Pontefract in the County aforesaid Spinster, daughter of Gervase Cowper of Pontefract aforesaid gent. on the other part, was published in the upper Church of Pontefract aforesaid three severall Lord's days at the close of morning exercise, viz the 4th, 11th and 18th days of October 1657, according to the law in that case.[3]
They lived in Barnsley and baptised at least seven children there.
She died in 1671 and was buried at Barnsley on August the 3rd.[4]
