BUCHANAN—COWPER - On Wednesday, December 23, Miss Elsie Cowper, the youngest daughter of Mr. Sheriff Cowper, was married to Mr. A. C. Buchanan, at St. Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney. Before half-past 2, the hour fixed for the ceremony, the building was well filled with the invited guests and others of the bride's friends anxious to witness her wedding. The bridal party left "Cockatoo," Mr. Cowper's residence, in a steam launch, and carriages met them at Circular Quay and drove them to the Catliodral. The bride, accompanied by her father, who gave her away, entered the church attended by two bridesmaids. She was gracefully dressed in a gown of white silk slightly trained, and made with a good deal of fulness about the body. Instead of the usual wreath and veil she wore a large hat covered with feathers; in her hand she held some lovely flowers. Her bridesmaids, Miss Louise Cowper, her sister, and Miss Ruth Cowper, her niece, wore white Indian silk dresses figured with pale pink, trimmed with lace, white hats. The marriage ceremony was performed by the Very Rev. the Dean of Sydney, the bride's uncle. On its conclusion the party returned to "Cockatoo," where the breakfast and reception took place, and where the very beautiful wedding presents which Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan received were to be seen. Towards the close of the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan Ieft "Cockatoo" for Sydney, on a visit to the Blue Mountains.[3] |
They had three children.
She passed away on 11 April 1901, at Glebe, New South Wales, Australia.[4]
