Biography

Martha Elizabeth, known to her family as Lizzie, was born in 1890.[1] In 1905, she married Warren Thomas Harris (1884-1963)[2] and they had 4 children:

  1. Ethyl Loretta Harris (abt.1906-abt.1992)
  2. Edith Jewel Harris (abt.1908-abt.1984)
  3. Lawrence Benjamin Harris (1915-1998)
  4. Noel Baker Harris (1918-2004)

They moved to Texas for while, probably to be close to her mother who lived there, but soon moved back to Missouri.[3][4] She died at the early age of 51 in 1941 from mitral regurgitation, a leaky heart valve.[5]

Research Notes

  1. Her family spelled the last name "Copass" while living in Kentucky, but her father and uncles changed the spelling to "Copaus" when they moved to Missouri and/or Texas.

When I found my great-grandmother's death certificate, I was shocked to learn that she died of the same heart problem that I had surgery to correct the year before, which saved my life.
