Born about 1626, George Clerke or Clarke was the eldest son of George Clerke and his wife, Barbara Palmer. [1] He was educated at Queens' College, Cambridge before entering Lincoln's Inn in 1646. [1]
By a license granted on the 9th of June 1648 he married Mary Holman, daughter of scrivener Philip Holman of Warkworth in Northamptonshire. [1] They were parents of two sons, George and Phillip, who both died in infancy, and six daghters. [1]
He was returned to Parliament in 1661 as member for Northamptonshire. [2]
Mary died in 1668 and George married again to Sarah Turnor, daughter of Sir Edward Turnor of Little Parndon in Essex. [1] This marriage was childless. [1]
He died in 1689 and was buried St. Peter and St. Paul, Watford on the 29th of May. [1]
