Moses Austin was the original empresario of the Old Three Hundred and was succeeded by his son, Stephen F. Austin, after his untimely death. After meeting with Spanish Governor Antonio María Martínez, Stephen F. Austin was acknowledged as Moses Austin's successor and was allowed to proceed with colonization activities.
