Upon the partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1772 the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria (or simply Galicia) became the largest, most populous, and northernmost province of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, where it remained until the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the end of World War I in 1918.

  • Preceded by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1569 - 1795)
  • 1772 - 1804, Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria was established in 1772 as a Crownland of the Habsburg Monarchy, Holy Roman Empire.
  • 1804 - 1867, Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria was a Crownland of the Austrian Empire.
  • 1867 - 1918, Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria was a Crownland of the Cisleithanian part of the dual monarchy of the Austro-Hungarian Empire
  • Succeeded by the Second Polish Republic. (1918 - 1939)
