James Byars was born about 1713 in New Kent County, Virginia, the son of John Byars and Elizabeth (Glen) Byars.[1]He was specifically named as the son of James Byars when his father deeded him land in 1734.[2]

He married (1) Peggy Gentry whose birth and death dates are unknown; although it is presumed to be after 1734 when her son John Byars was born .[1]

He married (2) Rachel Matthews. Records have not been located for the birth, death or marriage of either of these two wives. Rachel was still living when James died in 1792. Children attributed to this marriage: [1]

Nathaniel (Patricia) HENDRSON, St John Parish Granville, to James BYARS, Hanover VA; 400 A in Granville North Carolina for £40 in Virginia currency.[4]
It is not known if he ever lived in North Carolina, although his son Nathan is said to have been born in Granville County. If he did live for a time in North Carolina, he had returned to Virginia by 1762.[4]
