Biography

Joseph Brown was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

Joseph Brown was born in Sydney in 1834. His parents were Joseph Robert Brown and Izette Lisson, both Australian-born children of transported convicts.^[1]

For many years, his family lived between Darlington in Sydney and farmland at Wollombi Brook and Cockfighters Creek, near present-day Singleton. In the early 1850s, his parents moved to Marengo Station, Ebor, in the Guy Fawkes River region.

Joseph married Elizabeth Reed Casson at Grafton in 1859.^[2] They had at least 13 children.

In 1864, as a free selector, Joseph took up a new lease for 300 acres of land at Coaldale, about 35 km north of Grafton. His brother Abraham Joseph Brown (1830-1911) took up land nearby that same year.^[3][4][5]

Joseph advertised Coaldale for sale in 1883.^[6]

His mother, Izetta Brown, passed away in Grafton in 1888.^[7]

Joseph's wife, Elizabeth, passed away in 1913.^[8]

Joseph passed away in 1914.^{[9][10][11][12]}
