James Brown was born on 20 September 1794 and baptized on 28 September 1794 in Kingsbarn, Fife, Scotland.[1]
His parents were James Brown & Agnes Morice.
Marriage
He married Ann Innes on 14 June 1835 in Rayne, Aberdeen, Scotland at the age of 41 years.[2]
Occupation and life in Kingsbarns and Culsalmond
Children
Like many others in that time, they lost children in infancy and renamed two of the children after the event. John Watson Brown died and they had another John the following year. Their first born, James, also died and another son called James was born in 1838.
Their children born or baptized in Kingsbarns, Fife were:
James Brown who was born just under two years before they married. Must have died before 1838.
Ann Dougal Brown also born several weeks before their marriage in 1835.
In the 1861 census, James (age 65), Day Labourer, was the head of household in Lower St Northside Eastward, Cellardyke, Kilrenny, Fife. ann may have died between 1851 and 1861 and no children were living at home.[3]
In the 1871 census, James (age 78), Retired Ploughman, was living on his own in West And Lower St North Side, Cellardyke, Kilrenny, Fife.[4]
Death
James died on 6 September 1874 at Cellardyke Road, Kilrenny, Fife. He was 79 years old and died of heart disease. John, his son, was informant but he was not present when he died. The death of registered on 9 September 1874.[5]

Although it was suggested James had been married twice, there is no evidence of this.
