Biography

Known locally as "Francis Gasper" although that is likely not 100% accurate spelling as he was a Portuguese Sailor marooned in an almost wholly Scottish community. He died at the ripe age of 87 according to his death registration, I believe that may be a slight overestimate, but 82+ is definitely possible.^[1]

Francis Gasper married Bridget Breen, a half-sister of the Honorable Justice Nicholas Meagher's mother, and had a large family: (1) Peter, (2) John, (3) Francis, (4) Mary, (5)Rebecca, (6) Anne, (7) Elizabeth Anne, (8) Margaret and (9) Ellen.^[2]

Francis Gasper (82) is on the 1871 census with wife Bridget (76) and perhaps a daughter or grand daughter Mary (22) as well as 5 month old Catherine Wilmot, unsure of relation. They are in the household of their son John Gasper (29) with his wife Agnes (29) and their 2 children Peter (3) and Margaret (2).^[3]
