Obituary

Martha Jane Fry, (nee Boyd) wife of Benjamin Fry, born November 16, 1855 in Dark county, Ohio, and died August 29, 1901, aged 45 years, 9 months and 13 days. She moved with her parents to Madison county, Iowa, in 1865, and was married to Benjamin F. Fry Sept. 29, 1870. At the early age of sixteen she was converted to God, and united with the Methodist Episcopal church in whose fellowship she lived a faithful and consistent Christian. She died as she had lived in the triumphs of faith.

Sister Fry’s life had been one of suffering, especially the last ten years, but she bore it all with such Christian fortitude. Her home was a bethel to any who might enter, her presence a joy, and her faith, as expressed in humble Christian conversation, a benediction.

Her soul was ripened under the supervision of the blessed holy spirit, and as Enoch of old she “was not for God took her”. The family were all present when she died except one daughter who came some after.

She leaves a husband and a grown-up family of seven daughters and one son to mourn the loss of a wife and mother. A large concourse of people attended the funeral which was held at the Mt. Vernon church, Friday, at 11 a.m. August 30th, conducted by her pastor, Rev. A. Pruitt.[1]
