He passed away in 1951.[4] He is buried in Kaikõura Cemetery.[5]
The death occurred on Friday of an early Kaikoura settler, Mr Alexander (‘‘Sandy") Boyd, in his ninetyfirst year. Mr Boyd had lived at Kaikoura since leaving Northern Ireland 71 years ago. Two brothers, Mr James Boyd, aged 93 years, who was prominent in local body affairs in the Kaikoura district from 1902? to 1935?, and Mr David Boyd aged 86 are still living in Kaikoura. Born at Ardara, County Donegal, in 1860, Mr Boyd sailed for New Zealand in the Pleiades[6], which was under the command of Captain Setton from the East India docks, Devon, and arrived at Lyttelton on January 26th 1880. He transhipped by the Jane Douglas, coastal trader vessel for Kaikoura, where he took up residence on Postman’s road. Mr Boyd worked at ditching and road-making on the suburban flats, which were nearly all swamp then, and as a teamster for the late Mr G. F. Bullen at "The Elms" before taking up a 30-acre block known as "Rosedale" on Schoolhouse road, where he had resided until recently. He was one of the the suppliers and a director of the Kaikoura Co-operative Dairy Company in 1904?...... Mr Boyd married in 1884 Miss Lucy Jane Simons, daughter of Mr Richard Henry Simons of London. Mrs Boyd died in 1944, soon after the celebration of their diamond wedding anniversary. Of the family of three sons and six daughters only two - Mr George Boyd of Mosgiel and Mrs C Chisnall of Hinds - are living. Twin sons, Henry Richard and Arthur Alexander, lost their lives in the First World War. The other daughters were Mrs J. D. Boyd, Mrs A Hynam and Mrs J. Robinson; and Misses Lucy and Daisy Boyd.....[7]
