Gertrude was the daughter of Charles Baer and Helen Goldfarb.
Gertrude, known as "Trudy" to her friends and family, was an accomplished pianist. She performed in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky as a child. She taught music in the public school system as well as private lessons for most of her life. She also performed with the Louisville Symphony Orchestra. As a young adult, she adopted the stage name Verina. She went to New York City to seek her fame and fortune. In New York, she had a brief career on Broadway before going to work for the Manhattan Savings Bank at their Vanderbilt and Park Avenue branches, where for many decades she played a beautifully sounding Steinway in the bank's lobby. She leaves a legacy of her creative works in the archives at the University of Kentucky, Louisville Kentucky.
