Biography
Native of Unst, Shetland, Scotland
Margaret (Anderson) Harper migrated from Unst, Shetland, Scotland to Buller, West Coast, New Zealand.
Margaret was born in 1836 in Unst, Shetland.[1]
She married James Mouat Harper in 1855.[1]
Seeking gold,[2] James and Margaret immigrated to New Zealand with their eight children in 1875-76 aboard the Caroline.[3] They had two more children in Charleston, Buller, West Coast, New Zealand.[1]
The West Coast New Zealand History website has a photo of the family outside their house at Nine Mile Beach, Charleston in 1879.[2]
Margaret passed away in 1918 in Waipawa, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, just two days before her husband.[1][4]
Margaret and James are buried in Karori Cemetery in Wellington. Their headstone is recorded on Billiongraves.
