The Nordic Project is performing its bi-annual check-in with our project members. You are receiving this message, because we have not heard from you since you joined the Nordic Project.
We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. If you have not yet joined a team, please let us know which team(s) you would like to participate in. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Nordic_Project_-_Country_Sub-Projects
We are close to launching our new Nordic Trail. The Nordic Trail will be focusing on our new project members. We will be teaching them the core skills needed to contribute to the Nordic Project's goals – which are to make every Nordic profile the best it can be. We are looking for Trail Guides to guide the Explorers through the Nordic Trail. We need guides for each Nordic country before we can begin the Trail. If you feel you can help by becoming a guide, please contact Missy with the country or countries in which you would be able to guide. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Nordic_Project_-_Nordic_Trail_Team
We thank you for all you do to help the Nordic Project and are a bit curious about how you recently have been contributing to the project mission and goals. We are asking because it would to help us gauge our success and address our weaknesses. On behalf of the project, we would really appreciate it if you would take the time to respond by emailing Missy directly. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Missy Berryann and T.L. Koehnline Co-Leaders, The Nordic Project
Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

When you have your part of our One Big Tree fleshed out and you are ready to supplement it with DNA test matches, please check out the DNA Help category page to see all the DNA help that is available, and the How to Get Started page in particular.
When you are ready to start documenting that your genealogy sources are confirmed by DNA test matches, be sure to follow the guidance at the DNA Confirmation help page. After that, try out the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker, it can simplify the job.
John Kingman -- A Coordinator with the WikiTree DNA Project
If that is correct, how do I really know if there is a confirmed match? Wouldn't it only be based on the fact that each person entered their tree correctly, without errors?
Also, in regards to the degrees of difference listing. Those cross marriage lines, so there is really no relation. Is there some sort of direct connection listing somewhere?
Thank you for your help
You are correct, WikiTree does not keep any DNA test data, it relies on the testing companies (AncestryDNA, FamilyTreeDNA, etc.) and GEDmatch to provide test matching information to you and you enter it where needed in a DNA confirmation statement.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by a "confirmed match." The testing companies will tell you who in their data base matches you and by how much. If you have a relative who tested at a different company than you did, you can both upload your "raw DNA test data" to GEDmatch where you can compare how well your DNA tests match each other. If your DNA test matching results indicate that your relative is what your tree or the Relationship Finder says it is, then your genealogy is confirmed. If it doesn't, then there could be errors in the tree, or perhaps an adoption or some other event.
Where is the "degrees of difference listing" that you are referring to? What you said about crossing marriage lines is true for the Connection Finder, but not for the Relationship Finder.
Regards,
John
BTW, the Relationship Finder says that we share 242 common ancestors on WikiTree (!), and that the closest relationship we have is 10th cousins once removed.
We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.
Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
