David was born in 1875. He was the son of David Anderson and Mary Gray.
He emigrated from Scotland to New Zealand with his parents.
He married widow Eva Clarice Gray on 7 November 1916. They had no children.
When World War I, 1914-1918 broke out David enlisted and was assigned to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, 20th Reinforcements, E Company. His occupation was listed as a farmer, however at time of enlistment he was working for Waihi Gold Mining Company. His next of kin was recorded as Mrs Anderson (wife), care of Wynne Gray, Crossley, Symonds Street, Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand. (His parents had passed away by the time he enlisted.)
They departed from Wellington, New Zealand on 2 January 1917, HMNZT 73 for London, England, Arrival date 27 March 1917.
He went on to fight in Ypres, Belgium and was killed in action on 5 October 1917, less than a year after his marriage to Eva. He was 41.
